200 Up

Two, maybe three people may notice that something's new here. Blog's two years old, and this is the 200th post. That's an average of two posts a week, which is... adequate?

Rejected new names for the blog:

  • The Dipping Legbreak (too awesome)
  • Criception (too 2010)
  • Cricket Comics (too simple)
  • The Adventures of the Cricket Nerd (I don't have any adventures)
  • Super Happy Cricket Fun Times (Japanese sponsor, had to reject because payment was in Yen)
  • Cricket and life both suck (French sponsor)
  • Sachin Tendulkar (I'm not that hit-starved) (also, it already exists)

This isn't "The Adventures of Billy the Worm" anymore because I have concluded that series. The well is dry, so to speak. Here's the last one (surprise ending!) (not really). Fun fact: I drew this over 15 months ago. You must have watched a Friday the 13th movie at some point, if you haven't, it's your run-of-the-mill slasher flick.

(if you have this blog on your blogroll, please change the name!)

Billy the Worm: Issue 7 (I think)

Here's one after almost a year. It's better than that last one, but that's not saying much.

Fun fact: There's cricket on the TV throughout the strip. Really.

Click to be able to read it. Because that's the point, right?

England win a World Cup and Billy returns

Australia's super run was finally broken, and what a time for it to happen - at the final hurdle. England did everything right - they got the early wickets, and Clarke's edginess didn't help Australia one bit. Once he was gone, their three best batsmen - Cam White and the Husseys - hit some quick runs to add some respectability to the score.

This wasn't enough, of course - England's batsmen have been on song, and despite Lumb going early, the chase proved facile enough. Kieswetter finally converted his starts into a bigger innings, full of eye-catching strokes, while Pieterson smashed a commanding 47 and was deservingly named the Player of the Tournament.

That's England's first major ICC tournament win, and this side certainly has the talent to add to that. The 50-over World Cup starts in half a year, yay.

And on that note ("yay"), it's time to throw down a new Billy strip. This one's a tad shorter than all my other ones, but hey, it's a comeback issue, I was rusty, and it's tough (for amateurs) to make these.

As always, clicking on it makes it bigger. Technology.

Another One of Those

Here you go.

It's a new Billy.

Been ages hasn't it? Finally strung one together. It' s getting tougher to cough up new stuff and keep milking the concept. Just puts me more in awe of the writers and illustrators of the long-running comics like Spiderman (over 500 issues). Of course, they are allowed - nay, expected - to drag one villain/plot for 30 pages or more, depending on the popularity of that concept. I just use the one, and occasionally.

The T20 World Cup is on, but I'm not going to say much, despite my obvious cricket-writing flair (ha). If the semis were to be decided on a strength basis, it would consist South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Pakistan (somehow). Optimist that I am, I will declare that India will displace the Windies. That's all I have to say.

Summer (the season) seems to have a new peak everyday, I'm feeling more and more like something that's melting. A melt-y thing.

When's the next Ice Age (not the movie) ?

Stuff that doesn't matter and russell peters

Yes. It's a new Billy. Finally finished it after months of it being a work-in-progress in a notepad I don't use. Helped along, of course, by the fact that my laptop is back from surgery, having had a motherboard transplant. I'm also in the middle of the Spring Break that I had been looking forward to all semester. Which makes me realise how pathetic I am, since the Break gives me the huge amount of two extra holidays. Wow.

Not much going on; I'm still battling the daily tribulations of getting my driving license. India under Dhoni is still walloping the small matter of Vettori's Kiwis. Someone asked Dan the man why he doesn't do the traditional haka, to which he opined that a "skinny, white guy with glasses" really shouldn't do the same dance that the gorillafic All Black rugby team does. Speaking of rugby, the Sevens World Cup was awesome! Sevens is the Twenty20 of rugby, except it lasts 14 minutes. It's very entertaining, and it really isn't all about a bunch of strong men wrestling for the ball, contrary to popular belief. Oh, and in rugby, Fiji is the team to beat. Hanh.

About this Billy then. It's a tribute to Russell Peters, whose show I went for when he was here in Dubai last year. The guy was amazing! And I also realise that many jokes seem funnier when they're live. And when you've paid for the ticket. And when everyone else around you is laughing. This strip is one of my faves, notwithstanding that there are only four...
And er...don't mind the colour change later on. Prodigies run out of ink, too. I also hope the blog looks a little better now. You can now follow the blog from the links on the right. You can also use the orange RSS icon in the address bar. Right, I'm done.

Go ahead, open it.

Year of the billy?

A new year has arrived, and with it Billy returns. I was actually waiting for 2009 to post # 3, and wasn't being lazy at all. Really.

I can only hope '09 tops '08 in terms of 'fun had', because '08 was one heck of a year. The final term of high school and the first semester or college were, in the wise words of Russell Peters, "Toooo good!" Plus, India totally ruled in cricket this year, dishing out whippings in both in ODI's and Tests, except to that tribe known as Sri Lankans and their rookie huntsman Ajantha Mendis. Manchester United are world champions, Scrubs is back, and Stephen King has lost his touch (that's a bad thing).

But back to Billy. Last issue saw the stationary worm meet pirate-worm. If you need a recap, it's on my homepage! This issue, Billy meets a character from one of my all-time favourite movies. So go ahead, lookaddit. For noobies, you have to click on the image. It becomes big.

I'll stop now.

Dos.

After that healthy response to my first post, creatively titled The First One, I decided that it couldn't hurt to project my boredom a little more: resulting in the second "issue" of The Adventures of Billy the Worm.

This time there is a guest star, and this trend will probably continue until I run out of stereotypes to mock. Or my pen drops dead. Or Bangladesh beats South Africa in a test match. You get my drift.

In my mind, the Billy series is kinda like a junkyard sale, as it began as only a doodle that I found a bit interesting. To quote Charlie Sheen, "It amuses me!" Two and a Half Men watchers, you know that one ;)

So here's the issue that I don't really think you've been waiting to see. Again, for dimwits, click on the picture to make it a readable size.

I'm outta here.

The First One

I always wanted a comic strip. And I always wanted a blog. It didn't really take a figurative lightbulb flashing over my head to realize that I could combine the two.

Luckily for me, there's always the ever-interesting Introduction to Business class, or I would never have had the time to create a comic strip. Once a week I manage to puke one out when I am particularly bored.

So here, non-existent audience (because I don't expect one), is The Adventures of Billy the Worm. It's what I wanted it to be: Horrifyingly lame. But it still manages to amuse me.

And to read the comic: don't frikkin' squint. Well, that's you're choice if you want to, but you're allowed to click on it to enlarge it.
